Chilpancingo, city of history and tradition

The capital of the State of Guerrero since 1870, Chilpancingo is a city where history, culture and nature intertwine. The name of this history, beautiful city means “place of wasp” in Náhuatl. Its climate, the peacefulness in its streets, the friendliness of its people and its traditions make it an ideal place for a rest, a pleasant walk and good food. The best pozole and mescal in the country can be found here as well as varied exquisite bread.

Historically, Chilpancingo is a key piece in the formation process of the Nation and is the setting of important historic moments. You can visit the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, where, on September 14th, 1813, the rebel movement established the First Congress of Anáhuac to which the document known as “The Feelings of the Nation” by General José María Morelos y Pavón was read. This document abolished slavery, castes and taxes. Subsequently, on November 5th, the Act of Independence of Mexico would be proclaimed. Tixtla is located just a few minutes away and is the town where the perpetrator of Independence and national hero of the Nation, General Vicente Guerrero, was born and which is the birthplace of Ignacio Manuel Altamirano.

Chilpancino offers top-quality tourist services: hotels for all levels of tourist; restaurants offering international, national and regional cuisine; resorts, craft shops, supermarkets, etc.

It is also home to the Regional and thechnological museums and the Interactive Museum “La Avispa” as well as Zoochilpan Zoo for children.

Chilpancingo also offers various options for entertaining the young: it offer beautiful settings for camping or comfortable cabins in Santa Fe, next to the Azul River, where the Manantiales Resort and various restaurants can be found.

A visit to the street market organized every Sunday just an hour away from Chilpancingo in the City of Chilapa is another pleasant experience. It recreates the model of the pre-Hispanic and colonial market.
